You Are Lost, Beyond My Reach

A poem lamenting the lost love of careless youthfulness.

Where are you, where are you?
Oh my beloved, where are you?
Have I lost you in everyday mundeness?
Are gone the days of love?
Where are you? Oh my beloved, where are you?

I still look for you in the old groove,
Where we used to play our meaningless games,
Without any care in the world.
Where have all those days of love and laughter gone,
When you and I, hand in hand, step by step,
Roamed the green meadows,
Wrapped in the cloak of dreams,
Sweet cooling breeze playing with your long hair,
Making me jealous,

Where have all those moments of carelessness gone
When we used to whisper sweet nothings into each other's ears
With promises for the future?
We have crossed a million moments and miles together,
Chasing the rainbow,
Which like a mirage, always remained just beyond the reach
Keeping the hope alive.

Now we have arrived in the future,
But where have you lost your careless ways?
I look into your eyes and the vacant look haunts me,
I now miss the sparkle in your eyes that used to mesmerised me,
I try to reach out to you,
But you seem far away,
Lost in the depth beyond my reach.

Where are you, where are you,
Oh my beloved, where are you?
